Who we are
YGMI (Youth-Driven Growth & Market Intelligence) is a youth-powered Enterprise Support Organisation based in Accra, Ghana. We help businesses grow through digital media, field activation and consumer intelligence.
In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean YGMI. “You” means anyone whose personal information we hold −whether you contacted us, visited this website, took part in our research, or applied to join our network.

We are the data controller for the information described below, except where we are processing data on behalf of a client −see Research we run for clients.
The information we collect
When you contact us. Your name, company or organisation, email address, phone or WhatsApp number if you give one, the service you are interested in, and whatever you write in your message.
When you take part in our research or an activation. Your answers to survey questions, and where the study requires it, basic details such as age range, gender, location, or the products you use. We tell you at the point of collection what we are gathering and why. If we photograph or film an activation, we ask permission before using an image in which you are identifiable.
When you apply to join our network. If you apply to be a campus ambassador, creator or field researcher, we collect the details you submit −your name, contact details, institution, and anything else on the form. If we work together, we also collect the information we need to pay you and keep proper records.
When you use this website. Standard technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the time of your visit. [If you use Google Analytics or similar, say so here and name it.]
When you subscribe. Your email address, and nothing more, unless you volunteer it.
We do not collect sensitive personal information −health, religious or political views, ethnicity, or similar −unless a specific research project requires it, in which case we ask for your explicit consent first and explain why.
Why we use it, and on what basis
| What we use it for | Why we are allowed to |
| Replying to your enquiry and discussing work | Taking steps at your request before entering a contract |
| Delivering services to clients, including research findings and reports | Our legitimate interest in running our business |
| Running our campus and creator network, including recruitment and payment | Performing our contract with you |
| Sending updates and marketing you asked to receive | Your consent, withdrawable at any time |
| Understanding how this website is used and improving it | Our legitimate interest, and your consent where cookies require it |
| Meeting tax, accounting and legal obligations | Compliance with the law |
We do not make decisions about you by automated means alone.
Research we run for clients
This is the part of our work that matters most for your privacy, so we want to be clear about it.
When we collect consumer data for a client project, we aggregate and anonymise it wherever the study allows. Clients receive insights, patterns and findings −not the personal details of individual respondents −unless you have specifically agreed otherwise and we have told you which client will receive them.
Taking part is always voluntary. You can decline any question, stop at any point, and ask us to delete your responses afterwards, provided we can still identify them.
Where a client instructs us to collect data on their behalf and decides how it will be used, that client is the data controller and we act as their processor. In those cases their privacy policy governs the data as well as ours, and we will tell you at the point of collection.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us operate −website hosting, email, file storage, survey tools, analytics and payment providers. They may only use the data to provide their service to us. [Name the main ones once your stack is settled, e.g. hosting provider, Google Workspace.]
- Clients, in the aggregated or anonymised form described above.
- Professional advisers such as our accountants or lawyers, where necessary.
- Authorities, where the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety.
Some of these providers store data outside Ghana. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure the information stays protected to a standard comparable to Ghanaian law.
Cookies
This website uses cookies −small files stored by your browser −to keep the site working properly and to understand how it is used.
- Essential cookies keep the site functioning and cannot be switched off.
- Analytics cookies tell us which pages people read and how they arrived. [Delete this line if you do not use analytics.]
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don’t become work: up to two years, then deleted.
- Client records: for the length of our relationship, plus six years afterwards for tax and accounting. [Confirm this period with your accountant.]
- Research responses: for the length of the project plus [12 months], after which identifiable data is deleted and only anonymised findings are kept.
- Network applications: [12 months] if we don’t work together, or for the length of our engagement plus the statutory period if we do.
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe.
How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures −access controls, encrypted connections, and limiting who on the team can see what. Everyone in our network who handles consumer data is briefed on handling it responsibly before they go into the field.
No system is completely secure. If a breach occurs that puts your rights at risk, we will act promptly and notify you and the Data Protection Commission where the law requires it.
Your rights
Under Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), you may ask us to:
- confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete or block information where we no longer have grounds to keep it;
- stop using your information for direct marketing;
- object to processing that causes you unwarranted damage or distress; and
- withdraw consent you previously gave, without affecting what we did before you withdrew it.
Write to hello@ygmi.org and we will respond as promptly as we can, and within any period the law requires. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana (dataprotection.org.gh).
Children
Our services are not directed at children. Where a research project involves participants under 18, we seek consent from a parent, guardian or the relevant institution before collecting anything, and we do not collect more than the study needs.
Other websites
This site links to other places, including our social media profiles. We are not responsible for how those sites handle your information, and we’d encourage you to read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy from time to time. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you directly where we can.
